Oh how happy I would have been to have known about overnight refrigerator oatmeal as a new bride!  I tried to get up every morning to fix my husband’s breakfast, but he had to leave for work so early those days.  Store bought cereals were either sugary and un-healthy or expensive.  My husband loved homemade granola cereal, so that was a good thing to have on hand for the mornings I overslept.  But there were times when we were out of homemade granola cereal and I was already tired the night before and knew getting up the next morning in time to make breakfast would be difficult.

Now days, when faced with a busy, tiring schedule and needing something quick for breakfast that allows me to sleep until the last minute, I make overnight refrigerator oatmeal.  It only takes a couple of minutes to make after dinner, and it is ready for him to eat the next morning.

Depending on how hardy an eater the person is, place the desired amount of oatmeal in a jar.  Add whatever you desire.  For my husband, it is usually a few raisins with a drizzle of honey.  I sometimes enjoy a couple of tablespoons of peanut butter with a drizzle of honey.

Add milk to equal the amount of oatmeal.  If you used a half cup of oatmeal, then a half cup of milk, or one cup of oatmeal to one cup of milk.  Mix a bit, cover with a lid and place in the refrigerator.

The next morning, it is ready to take out, stir, and eat!  It is good, quick, healthy, and gluten free if you use gluten free oatmeal.

  • 3/4 Cup Oatmeal
  • 3/4 Cup Milk
  • Drizzel of honey
  • Raisins

Instructions

  1. Mix a bit, cover with a lid and place in the refrigerator.
